It was one of those exiting days. At that time, I was one of those nerdy collectors (now I’m just nerdy). From Japan, one of the crowns on my DVD gift set collection would come in. The Spirited Away Limited Collector’s Edition. Numbered and everything! Little did I know, I would sell it the following year. But that’s a whole nother story. As Spirited Away was one of the best rated movies last month, this is a small update on the movie. Not only was Spirited Away a box office success, it was also a big commercial success after the movie left the theater. Particularly in Japan, merchandise was all over the place.
Characters — notice how they are for 9 and above.
A ball of rise, which Miyazaki ate every day during the making of this movie. But most popular were DVD gift sets, which as I said, I was collecting at the time. And in the end, only two were worth owning. The Japanese Limited Bathhouse Edition:
Only 10,000 were made and it is numbered on the plate. And the Korean gift set:
With a gorgeous book full of production pictures. Actually, I’m lying right now. There was one more set. And I just had to have it. And it’s kind of embarrassing, because it was quite useless. The Spirited Away Limited DVD-Player Gift Set. Even more limited than the two other ones. I just HAD TO HAVE it. Not even caring about the different voltage and power plug, which made it useless over here. So… I got it:
Yes, you use the nut as a remote. But if you are eager to get one of these sets now, I have to disappoint you. These are pretty much sold out and never to be sold again. But to still give you some Spirited Away goodness, I did find some new (old) videos.

![]() | Here's a promo/featurette, with some quite enthusiastic people: (the audio got a little screwed on this one, sorry for that) And this is a video of Miyazaki drawing, followed by a great music trailer:

At this point, if you haven't seen this movie yet, the time to at least rent it has come. Read our impression or click "see the results". Only Japanohaters don't like this movie. Are you a Japanohater?

My kids love this movie. They’ve dragged me into it now too…
Speaking of Studio Ghibli - does anyone know where I can get a forest spirit (from Princess Mononoke) bobblehead?
I’ve been looking FOREVER!
Namaste,
A. Caleb Hartley
This is a great movie! I’ve watch Princess Mononoke and just finished Howl’s Moving Castle, which are also masterpieces…Guess it’s time to watch all of Miyazaki’s films.
Yes, his movies are great! And not only for the kids..
A. Caleb Hartley, you could try the Japanese Yahoo Auctions. It isn’t easy, but it is a way to get it. Try a search on もののけ姫 — I hope that’s readable.
http://www.rinkya.com has a service to buy Japanese items for you. I had this guy I knew in Japan, who bought and shipped all the items for me. But unfortunately he’s currently not in Japan.
This movie is fantastic. Very good. I was lucky enough to see it in theaters after its Oscar win.
I wrote about the film here: http://film-book.com/5-essential-anime-films-you-need-to-view-pt2/
